Privacy & Security in ChatCript
Your privacy matters to us. ChatCript is built with a privacy-first approach, giving you full control over your data and who can see it. This article answers the most common privacy questions from our users.
Can ChatCript View My Messages?
No. Your messages are your own. ChatCript does not read, scan, analyse, or monitor the content of your private conversations. Here's what you should know:
- Private chats and group messages are stored securely in our cloud infrastructure and are only accessible to the participants of that conversation.
- No human at ChatCript reads your messages. There is no manual review process for chat content.
- AI features are opt-in only — features like AI group summaries only process messages when you explicitly enable them, and the AI output is only visible to group members.
- Message locking adds an extra layer of protection — you can lock individual messages with a password so that even if someone accesses your device, locked messages remain hidden.
Is ChatCript GDPR Compliant?
Yes. ChatCript is fully compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other international privacy laws. Here's how we ensure compliance:
- Right to Access — You can view all the data ChatCript holds about you at any time through your profile and settings.
- Right to Data Portability — ChatCript provides a "Download My Data" feature that lets you export all your personal data, including your profile information, friends list, posts, group memberships, and more, in a portable format.
- Right to Erasure (Right to Be Forgotten) — You can delete your account at any time from Settings. This permanently removes your profile, messages, posts, and all associated data from our servers.
- Data Minimisation — We only collect information that is necessary to provide the service. We don't collect unnecessary personal data.
- No Data Selling — ChatCript never sells your personal data to third parties. Period.
- Non-Personalised Ads — Ads shown in ChatCript are non-personalised by default, meaning your personal data is not used for ad targeting.
- No Cross-App Tracking — We do not track your activity across other apps or websites.
What Personal Information Is Shared with Friends?
ChatCript gives you granular control over exactly what information your friends can see. Every profile field has its own privacy setting that you can customise.
Privacy Levels
For each piece of profile information, you can choose one of four visibility levels:
- Only Me — Completely private. No one else can see this information.
- Friends — Only people in your friends list can see it.
- Friends of Friends — Your friends and their friends can see it.
- Public — Anyone on ChatCript can see it.
